Skateboard Anatomy

The tour begins with an original Roller Derby, the first skateboard produced on a commercial scale in the world in 1959. Next, you will see historic skateboards from the country’s leading collectors, along with some rare pieces that show the diversification into other disciplines, such as a 1.65m high “classic”. One of the guitars belonging to Alexandre Chorão, skateboarder and leader of the band Charlie Brown Jr, makes up the music section and visual works by artists from the skateboarding scene make up the art section. Participants include Binho Ribeiro, Speto, Everaldo Ratones and Silvana Mello. In the media section, a magazine stand is set up with rare titles, a video store and a monitor with skateboarding channels. With images by specialist photographers such as Klaus Mitteldorf, Roberto Price, Fernando Moraes and Julio Detefon, the timeline features some of the scene’s most representative skaters, such as Digo Menezes, Lúcio Flávio, Sandro Dias, Karen Jonz, Leticia Bufoni and Pedro Barros. Skateboarding gained ground until it reached Olympic status, with medals for Kelvin Hoefler, Pedro Barros and Rayssa Leal in Tokyo. The exhibition also features models of historic locations, such as Vale do Anhangabaú, and unmissable video experiences.
